Workshop di drammaturgia con Simon Stephens. #sponsor

Per la prima volta a Milano, Simon Stephens, una delle voci più importanti della drammaturgia britannica degli ultimi vent’anni, condurrà alla Fabbrica del Vapore presso lo spazio The Art Land un workshop di due giorni. Durante le sessioni Simon fornirà stimoli e prospettive sulla struttura e sulla forma della scrittura drammaturgica e proporrà esercizi e spunti di riflessione e discussione per il gruppo.
Si tratta di un’occasione assolutamente imperdibile per drammaturghi emergenti ma anche per chi ha già esperienza di studiare con un maestro geniale e coinvolgente.
Il workshop è a numero chiuso. I posti disponibili sono 15 e la lingua di insegnamento è l’inglese: è pertanto necessaria una buona padronanza – almeno a livello C1 – sia nello scritto che nel parlato.

Tutti i candidati saranno informati dell’esito della procedura di selezione entro lunedì 16 aprile via email.
Per partecipanti provenienti da fuori Milano, saremo lieti di aiutare a trovare una sistemazione economica per il pernottamento.
Il costo del workshop è di 150 euro.

SIMON STEPHENS
Simon Stephens (Manchester, 1971) è una delle voci più influenti della scena anglosassone contemporanea e autore di più di trenta opere nel corso degli ultimi 20 anni. I suoi testi sono stati rappresentati da importanti teatri in Regno Unito, Usa, Canada, Olanda, Germania ed est Europa. Dopo aver insegnato per il Young Writers Program del Royal Court Theater (2001-2005), è diventato Artistic Associate del Lyric Hammersmith di Londra, dove hanno debuttato le sue pièce Morning e Three Kindoms (2012), e della Step Theatre Company di Chicago, che ha portato in scena le prime statunitensi di Harper Regan e Motortown. Autore già premiatissimo, il suo adattamento del romanzo di Mark Haddon Lo strano caso del cane ucciso a mezzanotte, clamoroso successo nel West End londinese e a Broadway, ha vinto l’Olivier e il Tony Awards nella categoria Best New Play. Nel 2014 ha debuttato con Carmen Disruption al Deutsches Schauspielhaus di Amburgo, Birdland al Royal Court e l’adattamento del Giardino dei Ciliegi di Čechov allo Young Vic. Nel 2015 e 2016 la piece Heisenberg è stata presentata dal Manahattan Theatre Club di New York. The Funfair, adattamento di Kasimir und Karoline di Ödön von Horváth, è stato allestito dall’Home Theatre di Manchester, mentre allo Young Vic ha debuttato Song from far away, con la regia del pluripremiato regista belga Ivo van Hove. Sempre nel 2016, la sua versione dell’Opera da Tre Soldi di Brecht è stata portata in scena dal National Theatre a Londra. Nel 2017 Nuclear War è stato rappresentato al Royal Court, l’adattamento inglese di Ossessione di Luchino Visconti al Barbican, Fatherland al Royal Exchange Manchester e la sua versione del Gabbiano di Čechov al Lyric Hammersmith e Heinseberg è stato ripreso, con una nuova produzione, al Wyndham Theatre.

For the first time in Milan, Simon Stephens, one of Britain’s most prominent playwrights, will lead a two-day workshop at Fabbrica del Vapore, at The Art Land venue. During the sessions, Simon will provide practical considerations about the mechanics of dramatic writing and will introduce exercises and food for thought for group discussions.
It is a unique opportunity, for beginners and experienced writers alike, to study with a brilliant and engaging master.
The number of participants is limited to 15 and the workshop will be held in English: a C1 written and oral proficiency level is required for all attendees.

All candidates applying to this call will be informed by mail about the outcome of the selection process by Monday April 16th. For attendees not living in Milan, we will be glad to assist in finding affordable accommodation.
The participation fee for the workshop is 150 Euros.

Simon Stephens (Manchester, 1971) is one of today’s leading playwrights, with more than 30 plays written over the last 20 years. His works have been staged by the most prominent theatres in the UK, US, Canada, Holland, Germany and Eastern Europe. Having taught at the Young Writers Program of the Royal Court (2001-2005), he is now Artistic Associate at the Lyric Hammersmith in London, where Morning and Three Kingdoms opened in 2012, and of the Step Company in Chicago, that staged the US premieres of Harper Regan and Motortown. His adaptation of Mark Haddon’s novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time won the Oliver and Tony Awards for Best New Play. In 2014 Simon premiered Carmen Disruption at Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and Birland at the Royal Court. His adaptation of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard also opened at the Young Vic in 2014. In 2015, Heisenberg opened at MTC in New York; The Funfair, Simon’s new version of Ödön von Horváth’s Kasimir und Karoline, opened at Home Theatre in Manchester; and Song from Far Away, directed by award-winning Belgian director Ivo van Hove, received its UK premiere at the Young Vic. His version of Brecht and Weill’s The Threepenny Opera opened at the National in May 2016. In 2017 Nuclear War opens at the Royal Court, his English language version of Obsession opens at the Barbican, Fatherland opens at the Royal Exchange Manchester, his new adaptation of The Seagull comes to the Lyric Hammersmith and Heinsenberg premiered, with a new production, at the Wyndham Theatre.
